NDA Eligibility, Age, Education & Physical Standards – Complete Guide

✅ 1. NDA Eligibility Criteria
The The NDA exam is held two times a year by the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC).To appear for the exam, a candidate must fulfill the following eligibility requirements:
Nationality:
Must be a citizen of India, or
A subject of Nepal or Bhutan, or
A Tibetan refugee who arrived in India prior to January 1, 1962, aiming for permanent settlement.Gender:
Both men and women can apply for the position.
Marital Status:
Only unmarried candidates can apply for NDA.
🎯 2. Age Limit for NDA
Candidates must be between 16.5 to 19.5 years old.
For NDA 1 (which took place in April), candidates should have been born between July 2, 2006, and July 1, 2009 (this is an example for the 2025 exam).
For NDA 2, which took place in September, candidates should have been born between January 2, 2007, and January 1, 2010.
🔴 Reminder: There is no age relaxation applicable to any category.
📚 3. Educational Qualification
For Army Wing of NDA:
Candidates must have completed their 10+2 (Class 12) or an equivalent examination from a recognized board.
For the Air Force and Naval Wings of the NDA, as well as for the 10+2 Cadet Entry Scheme at the Indian Naval Academy:Must have passed 10+2 with Physics and Mathematics.
🟢 Students appearing in the 12th Class are also eligible to apply.
💪 4. Physical Standards for NDA
Physical fitness plays a crucial role in the NDA selection process. Candidates must be physically and mentally fit as per the guidelines set by the Ministry of Defence.
General Physical Requirements:
Height:
Army: Minimum height – 157 cm
Navy: Minimum height – 157 cm
Air Force: Minimum height – 162.5 cm
For Gorkhas, Garhwali, Kumaonis, North-East candidates: relaxation in height standards by 5 cm
Weight: It should correspond to both height and age.
Chest: Fully expanded chest should not be less than 81 cm. Minimum expansion – 5 cm.
Vision Standards:
For Army: 6/6 in both eyes without glasses.
For Navy and Air Force: Better eye – 6/6, worse eye – 6/9 (correctable with glasses).
Myopia more than 2.5 D and Hypermetropia more than 3.5 D are not acceptable.
Hearing and General Health:
Should not have any previous occurrences of mental breakdowns or seizures.
Must not have any history of mental breakdowns or seizures.
No hernia, piles, or hydrocele.

To prepare for the NDA physical standards, start regular training including:
Running (2.4 km in 15 mins)
Push-ups, sit-ups, and chin-ups
Rope climbing and long jump
Swimming (optional but preferred in Navy/Air Force)
